| Kullu–Manali – The Valley of Gods |

Kullu valley is generally described as a strip of country some eighty kilometers long and of varying width not exceeding a couple of kilometers, running on the North to South along the western side of the great snow range of the middle Himalayas. Encased between the Barabhangal range of the Himalayas on the west, Dhouladhar range on the south west and the central Himalayan range on the east and north east separating the valley from the Lahual and Spiti valleys, the Kullu valley is situated on the banks of the river Beas. Here the river flows amidst broad cultivated terraces along the lower slopes of the mountains. Here the nature is at its beautiful best. The spectacular grandeur of the mountains enhanced by the vast expanses of snow on the upper regions, the rushing torrents, sparkling streams, cascading waterfalls and luxuriant forests add to the unmatched charm of the valley. Here three are orchards of apples and pears, cherries, apricots, plums and peaches, wheat fields and rice terraces along the valley floor and down the lower hill slopes in a series of steps to the valley floor. The hill sides are clothed with forests of the evergreen conifers, cedar, spruce, pine, fir and the oaks. A profusion of flowers, white and pink blooms of the apple and cherries in the seasons. A gentle climate and the peace of the mountains. Make this area , a Valley of Bewitching and lulling charm.

Here the life is unhurried. A dignified and hardworking population. Indigenous art, craft and culture. Small villages dot the hill sides. Kullu no wonder is also called as ‘ the valley of the Gods’ Every village has its own deity. Festivals and festivities are a part of the life here. In the month of September – October, the famous Dusshera is held here when all the local deities descent in Kullu to pay respect to the main deity (Ragunathji).

| Hadimba Temple |

Resting on the stone platform in a dense stand of Old Deodar, Hadimba Temple is Manali’s oldest shrine. Dating back to 1553, it is a fine example of Pagoda architecture.

Old Manali and Vashisht

Though the area has gone a very fast change in last 10 years but still the authentic charm does remain in the nearby villages of Vashisht and Old Manali, the village from which the modern Town takes its name, unlike its offspring, the settlement retains an unhurried and traditional feel. There is a Temple of Sage Manu (Hindu Mythological Hero) in the Village. The Village of Vashisht offers hot sulpher water springs and an ancient Temples of Rama. |

Heritage trip to Nagger |

| Around 40 Minutes drive through beautiful landscape comprising of vast cultivation fields dotted with old Kulluvi style wooden chalets takes one to Nagger, the ancient capital of Kullu. En-route, one comes across the quaint mountain village of Dashal. This village is famous for its ancient Shiva temple, which is classic example of the old Shikhara Style stone temple architecture that has been prevalent in northern India since days of yore. |

At Naggar there is an old Castle, which once belonged to the ruling dynasty of Kullu, but now has been renovated and converted into a heritage hotel. One can also visit some ancient hallowed temples that are located all around the village and possess a definite mystical quality. There is also an art gallery which houses beautiful oil and vegetable color paintings of the famous Russian painter, writer and philosopher, Sir Nicholas Roerich. |

| The area offers some of the most magnificent views in the region as here the upper kullu valley is at its widest and one can see the whole mountain panorama from Rohtang to the southern edge of the valley, as well as the long serpentine Beas river making its way down. This area also offers some interesting walks and day picnics through old villages and coniferous forests and vast paddy fields, which are a delight to the eye. |

Manali’s days as an “authentic” pahari bazaar ended when the mule trains were superceded by TATA trucks, but it is still an excellent place for souvenir shopping. Woolen goods are the towns real forte, particularly the brilliant patterned shawls and caps for which the Kullu Valley is famous.

Alpine Trek to Beas Kund |

| The upper kullu valley offers some fantastic alpine scenery. The main advantage being its easy accessibility. One can reach the snowline and even up to the snouts of glaciers and back to the comforts of ones hotel room, all in the passage of a day. At the head of the valley the great snowy ridge of solang raises its towering head. |

This majestic ridge is the meeting point of the mighty Dhauladhar and Pir-Panjal Ranges and is blessed with a series of jagged parallel mountain chains and summits, such as the beautiful Hanuman Tibba massif at 5928 Mtrs. At the base of this ridge lies the lovely jewel like Beas Kund, a glacial lake which is the source of the Beas River. A trek up to this lake brings one face to face with breathtaking alpine vistas of unmatched beauty and grandeur. |

| Forest Trek to Lamadugh |

Initially Trek goes through cool forests of giant deodar (cedar) up to Hadimba Temple. Next is the steep ascent through the Alpine Forest, as one climbs high, one notice change in the vegetation, forest of alder, Oak, Walnut, Chestnut, grassy knolls, the last section of the meadow is covered with Rhododendron bushes and the Himalayan Silver birch. The walk offers extensive view of the Valley surrounded by the snow clad mountain ranges. The descent from north of the ridge offers walk through the beautiful deciduous alpine forest with good opportunity to locate Himalayan Bird and wild life. |
